The Renal Protective Effects of Corn Silk and Feijoa by using in situ Rat Renal System
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Background: Corn silk (CS) is widely used in Iranian traditional medicine and Feijoa sellowiana(FS) is a native plant widespread in the Southern parts of Iran. The aim of the present study was to assess renal protective activities of CS and FS against dosage induced injury by ecstasy (MDMA) using insitu rat renal perfusion (IRRP) system. Methods: Hydro-alcoholic extract of CS and FS (10, 20, 40 and 100 mg/ kg) was studied for its renal protective activity by IRRP system. The kidneys were perfused with Kerbs-Henseleit buffer, containing different concentration of hydro-alcoholic (HA) extract of CS and FS (10, 20, 40, 50,100mg/kg) for 2 hours. During the perfusion, urea, creatinine and Glutathione (GSH) levels were assessed as indicators of renal viability. Consequently, sections of renal tissues were examined for any histopathological changes. Results: The results showed that histopathological changes in renal tissue were related to HA extract of CS and FS concentrations in a dose-dependent manner. GSH levels in samples perfused by HA extract of CS and FS increased compared to the positive control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Renal protective effects of CS and FS are due to decreased lipid peroxidation, although other mechanisms may also be involved.

Background: Corn silk (CS) is widely used in Iranian traditional medicine. The aim of this study was to investigate hepatoprotective activity of CS by Isolated Rat Liver Perfusion System (IRLP). Methods: Hydro-alcoholic extract of corn silk (10, 20, 40, and 100 mg kg-1) was evaluated for its hepatoprotective activity by IRLP. Phenol and flavonoid contents of the extract were determined as gal...
متن کاملProtective Effects of Hydrocortisone, Vitamin C and E Alone or in Combination against Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rat
Background: Renal ischemia reperfusion injury may occur in a variety of clinical situations, following a transient drop in total or regional blood flow to the kidney. This study was performed to investigate the protective effects of different antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, hydrocortisone and combination of these agents against experimental renal ischemia-reperfusion injury....

Objective(s): Because of the high total phenolic contents of Feijoa sellowiana , its nephroprotective effect was determined in 3,4-methylene dioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) treated mice. Materials and Methods: Animals received 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg doses of aqueous or methanol extract of F. sellowiana leaves, intra-peritoneally. After one hour, an acute administration of MDMA (20 mg/kg, IP)...
متن کاملThe protective activity of noscapine on renal ischemia–reperfusion injury in male Wistar rat
Objective(s):Bradykinin is a part of the kinin-kallikreinsystem which is involved in ischemia-reperfusion injury via B1 and B2 receptors.Noscapine is a non-competitive antagonist of bradykinin receptors. Noscapine has been reported to to be able to protect some organs against ischemia-reperfusion injury but its effect on renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (RIR) in rats is unknown. Therefore, the...

Introduction: Vincristine (VCR) is potential anti-cancer drug that is highly toxic for renal tissue. This study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of alcoholic extract of saffron stigma against vincristine renal toxicity in male rats. Methods: A total number of 50 rats were randomly divided into 10 groups. Different doses of VCR (0.25, 0.5 and 0.75mg/kg) and saffron (0.5 and ...
